Mornings are when I thrive. Admittedly, I've always been an early riser. Most of my friends find this to be extremely annoying (lol, sorry for the early morning texts guyssss, I can't help it!)
Anyways, because I know that I have the most energy and am mentally sharp in the AM, I choose to tackle the gym and get my thoughts down on paper right away. My morning routine sets the tone for the rest of my day. Waking up and checking things off the list makes me hungry to accomplish more. I love that feeling.
Some people HATE mornings. To those who feel this way, here are some things to consider:
1. Waking up earlier than the crowd allows you to get things done before distractions and obligations arise.
2. By waking up early you are in complete control of how you spend your morning/extra time.
3. By starting your day off on a productive note, you will most likely want to continue this behavior throughout your day.
4. You are more likely to be health conscious in the early morning, which will lead to better choices throughout the day.
5. Most successful people report being an early riser in order to exercise, read, and have coffee + breakfast before starting their work day.
I am a firm believer in the power of routine. I find that I am healthiest and happiest when I follow my morning ritual. This routine gives me something to look forward to each morning and I know that it will leave me feeling strong, confident, and fueled for my day.
MORNING ROUTINE:
1. 5:30AM wake up and drink some water.
2. Go to the gym. Headphones are in, music is on, and the world is off. This is my oasis.
3. Walk my dog and disconnect. Typically, I will leave my phone at home. Being outside in the crisp, morning air really helps me wake up. Taking some time everyday to slow my mind and be present has helped with my anxiety a ton.
4. Eat a banana and drink lemon water. This is the first thing I eat everyday. Hydration pre-gym and nutrition post-gym seem to work best for MY body because it is so early in the day. (Disclaimer: Speak to a nutritionist to see what will work best for you.)
5. Shower and get ready for the day. My soccer coach used to tell us "Look Good, Feel Good, Play Good" and that really stuck with me. I find that the days I look the most presentable, I also feel the most confident and perform better. Show up for yourself.
6. Eat a bowl of coconut yogurt with granola and honey. This fills me up a bit more before I head out to tackle the big list of daily to-do's.
7(?). Coffee-but only kinda. I will drink it when I'm craving a boost but I usually wait until 10AM or so until I do have it. I wouldn't necessarily say it is a morning routine "staple" but it definitely makes an appearance from time to time.
So there you have it! Creating and following a solid morning routine will set you up for success the rest of the day. Wake up with intention, not rushed and reactive. These little steps that I take each morning make me feel like awake, empowered, and accomplished.
I would love to hear about some of your morning rituals! Please share in the comments below what you do that makes you feel your best each day.
Love,
B
