We all have something that motivates us to perform better. It can be a number of things:
- innate desire to succeed
- competitive nature
- results driven
- words
- passion for what you do
- family and friends
- recognition and power
- money and rewards
- proving people wrong
- having an impact
- the list goes on and on....
The bottom line is that every person on this earth is motivated by something.
But if everyone is motivated by something, then WHY is finding motivation so hard for us? And when we do find the motivation, why is it so hard to keep?
Simple answer: Motivation is an EMOTION.
When in your life have you ever experienced the same emotion uninterrupted for an entire week? An entire day? Probably never. So why then should we be so confused or upset with ourselves for lacking motivation to accomplish a goal after a week or so?
What you should do-- Be intentional about finding what motivates you and practice it daily.
Some Ideas:
- Take 5 minutes each morning to write down your goals and why you want to achieve them.
- Think about the things you have accomplished thus far and how it makes you feel.
- Listen to your favorite songs.
- Read your favorite book.
- Do yoga.
- Look at pictures.
- Literally WHATEVER the f*ck it is that lights you up inside is what you should make time for every morning.
What works for me:
One way that I find motivation daily is by listening to podcasts. I actively make time in my schedule for this each morning because for me, if I start my day with a solid workout and a motivating podcast, I feel fired up for the rest of my day.
One of my FAVORITE speakers currently is Ed Mylett. I have started nearly everyday of this year by listening to Ed's podcast. His episodes are informative and inspiring, making it such a positive way to begin the day!
